¨"The destination is "to be" and not
to arrive somewhere else"
Summer is here with longer days and nights that captivate the child within me. Lighting bugs dance all around and the air fills with the sweet aroma of honeysuckle. My soul is taken to the moment and yearns to drink it all in. "How sweet it is!"
Life awaits us around every corner, within every relationship, from the moment we stretch our bodies in the morning to greet the new day and throughout the unfolding encounters. As we grow in consciousness we realize that there is no place to get to and nothing to plan for other than here and now.
Dr. Holmes admonishes us that our demonstrations are not as important as "the tendency of our thought." Ask yourself throughout tbe day, "Mind of mine, where are you going?" Observe how easily we abandon the present moment as we chew on a bone from the past or invest energy in some concern out there in the future.
Let us reduce the distractions in our lives and make room for subtleties. What would that look like to reduce the distractions? Perhaps we would be able to pay attention and find those perfect moments that are subtly offered up all the time. When the cat climbs up on my lap to make biscuits, when the dog snorts in playful response, when the flower opens her petals and asks "What do you think?"... If I am not present in the moment it all goes unnoticed, unappreciated and unfelt. No more.
This summer I choose to make "bliss stops" as I stick my nose in every flower that beckons. I will remove my rock from my shoe rather than learning to limp comfortably. I will celebrate my body though movement and laughter. I will free myself from the responsibility of making others happy and instead honor what makes me happy.
What a juicy life awaits the soul who can go with the flow of the moment. I invite you to express yourself honestly and directly and let the cards fall where they may. That means that you stop saying yes when your heart tells you "no". When you let go of having to make your world and that of others be the way you think it should be you can experience the taste of freedom.
The ultimate goal of all that we do is freedom. It has to start with our ability to see our self free, accept it as our right, feel that liberation down to our toes and then act as if it were so. You know that I will be there cheering you on.
Make this summer a blissful dance where your soul can revel in the simple pleasures that life so graciously offers in every moment. I know that I will be.
