"As you proceed through life, following your own path, birds will dump on you. Don't bother to brush it off. We are not there until we can say "yea" to it all. Getting a comedic view of your situation gives you spiritual distance. Having a sense of humor saves you." Joseph Campbell
Owning a new church that is not so new is like buying an automobile from a used car lot, driving it away and then discovering all its little quirks as it breaks down in the middle of traffic. Our sweet church home is like that. Last summer we found ourselves expiring from the heat when the air conditioners kept breaking down. Last winter it was the old heating unit in the attic that kept going on the fritz, as my Dad would say.
Just the other day I went in to teach yoga class and had the AC guy out again. He is almost like family now. The AC wasn't working after having two new transformers put in. He went up into the attic and said we needed a third. No charge. That was good news. It was to replace the previous two he had installed. As he checked things out, the furnace started shooting out flames and burned up some coils and it was "bye bye" to big Bertha our ancient furnace.
This isn't quite like the bird from above, but it's close. I find myself saying "yea" to all of this in the awareness that perhaps this church, like the used car, needed an overhaul. So we are taking the next steps. Have you noticed the plumbing? My, my there is a lot of jiggling of handles to keep that water from running and running and running.
I smile a lot and jiggle away. Yard needs mowing, trees need trimming and garden needs weeding. I smile and take the next step. Thank you for all your help especially those who keep financially supporting us as we meet these big expenses. Landscaping, furnaces and air conditioners have put a dent in our budget.
Several of you have mailed in your tithes as you are away this summer and that is greatly appreciated. I see our church as a garden and we all get to tend it and keep it alive and thriving. It takes all of us to make it bloom and bear fruit.
If you have been blessed by this Center and your life has been enhanced, you may want to give back in whatever ways you are capable, as we need all the help you can muster. We have a great Board of Trustees and seven licensed Practitioners all here to serve you as I am. Still we need volunteers to assist in many areas; Junior Church, Special Events, Grounds and Building Maintenance, Bookstore, Fund Raising and Public Relations. If you have talents, time or treasure to share, please let them spill over.
Many of you will be gone throughout the summer. Please remember to keep your church in mind as we jiggle and repair and maintain, realizing that we are creating a Spiritual Home for us all.
Thank you one and all…..love and Namasté

David
