Reverend David "We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come."

J. Campbell

In a recent conversation with Dr. David Walker, the President of RSI, we discussed how the future of our organization is at an interesting turning point. It is as if we are evolving organically from a place of comfortable structure into one of heartfelt reorganization. Who we thought we were is shifting so that what needs to emerge can be accommodated.
Enthusiastically, we spoke about a willingness to break out of old mind sets and discover what needs to happen in order to be a vital organization in this changing world. Attending the Parliament of World Religions has had a deep impact on us both and we feel the compulsion to think globally.
We must be willing to co-evolve with the world around us. To do that we need to hear with our hearts those greater ideas as they reveal themselves and then move into action embracing the inevitable changes. This new way to recreating our self must be playful and not fearful. In such an atmosphere we would be willing to make mistakes so that we might refocus on global participation and not isolation.
A gardener knows that the earth must be broken and seeds must be planted if we are to bring forth new life. Likewise, a cook realizes that if he would make an omelet some eggs must be broken. In order to facilitate the emerging idea of our organization we must also be willing to break the shell that has held us separate and be willing to scramble things up a bit. We must till the hardened soil, the rigid thought patterns, and sow ideas of our next season of growth.
Isn’t it grand to know that we can embrace change, and that we can step into the confusion without fear but with a deep trust in a Power greater than we are. What an exciting time for our church, our parent organization, and our own sweet unfolding lives. The irony is that we are not even certain of what the outcome will be. Our stability lying in our FREEDOM to evolve without resistance and fear.
Thoreau observed, “It is not the fish we are after when we go fishing.” Likewise, it is not some definitive result we are after in our lives or our churches but rather it is the “process” of fishing, the dance of creation, the “coming” of the next great idea.
How grateful I am to be involved in an organization that encourages the individual to grow and evolve in authentically organic and meaningful ways. Who knows what the future will bring. It is not the destination we are after but the journey.
Get involved in some of the many activities at our Center. Dance with us in heart and mind as together we celebrate that New Life that wants to happen through us all. Together we bloom and grow in unique and mysterious ways. How sweet it is.
