Reverend David "We’re reaching the end of a lot of paradigms. From the personal to the political, we’re hitting the edges of an old system. The future lives at the edge. Learning to ride the edge is the key to freedom."

P. Tarlow

Greater ideas always come from the edge, from that emerging consciousness that embraces change as a gift. Culturally and personally we are learning to discover and ride the edge of our lives much like a surfer would catch the most productive point on a wave.
It is important that we don’t think of the future as “out there” as it frustrates the heck out of us as if we were eternally chasing a carrot. To put our future out there only pulls us away from our self, looking outside ourselves for our good. In navigating the future we must realize that we carry it within us. It goes beyond our notion of time and exists already as a divine idea.
Right now there awaits within all of us a greater idea that is asking our recognition. Could we face the fear of the future, the fear of losing control and realize that life isn’t about sustaining the old idea, but embracing the new.
We are beginning the last year of this millennium, a huge edge. It would ask of us to have the courage to die to some old concepts in order for new life to emerge. In mythology there was always a guardian who watched the threshold or edge. His function was to tell us to “turn back”. “You don’t have what it takes to go forward. It’s too dangerous out there.”
The good news is that whenever you feel this despair, it is a good sign that you are close to your threshold of change. The future dwells just on the other side of that despair. If we are coming close to that edge of our despair we might be able to see a new world of possibility waiting for us.
We can treat this entire year as an eternal moment of potential change. Each morning we can wake up and ask, what does this momentous time mean to me? How can I most wisely embrace the change that awaits my acceptance? Where do I want the arrow of my life to fly?
When we approach this millennium of change, both personal and cultural, as that archer, it becomes a glorious gift.
Let us let go of that illusion of control over the future and step into the infinite possibilities that await us all. Watch us fly.
